PIV4Algae project is coordinated by researchers from LEPABE and LSRE-LCM, in the Faculty of Engineering of University of Porto.

LEPABE — Laboratory for Process Engineering, Environment, Biotechnology and Energy was created in 1997, as an interdisciplinary group, to operate within the Faculty of Engineering – University of Porto (FEUP). Its mission is to develop innovative products and processes to respond effectively to societal challenges, using the basis of chemical and biological engineering to improve the quality of life, in a sustainable and safe way and combining eco-efficiency and health concerns with economically sound design and operation. The research is structured along 5 research groups: (1) Processes, Products and Energy; (2) Process Systems Engineering; (3) Biotechnology; (4) Supramolecular Assemblies and (5) Environmental Sciences and Technologies.

LSRE-LCM is a partnership between LSRE – Laboratory of Separation and Reaction Engineering and LCM – Laboratory of Catalysis and Materials. This partnership obtained the status of Associate Laboratory in December 2004. It is headquartered at FEUP and it includes two external poles (Instituto Politécnico de Bragança and Instituto Politécnico de Leiria). Its activities have strong impact in the development of the scientific and technological system, through its scientific production reflected by its outputs, and in technology transfer to the industrial sector by the creation of spin-offs and contracts with industry. The research is organised in 4 research groups: (1) Cyclic Adsorption/Reaction Processes; (2) Product Engineering; (3) Thermodynamics and Environment; (4) Catalysis and Carbon Materials.

This project will be performed in close collaboration with industrial partners: Aqualgae, Portuguese Association of Aquaculture and Colep.

Aqualgae is an engineering and biotechnology company, focused on the aquaculture and microalgae sectors. Aims to develop integral solutions for the cultivation of microalgae in an optimised way.

The Portuguese Association of Aquaculture is a national non-profit association that represents 90% of the Portuguese aquaculture production which aims to defend the interests of its members.

Colep is a leading global company in the consumer goods packaging and contract manufacturing industries. Their aim is to offer innovative outsourcing solutions to multinational marketers.
